They have to wait for her to turn 3 so she can have her four upper front teeth pulled.im having second thought

my daughter just turn 3 on the 15th of this month..i took her to see her dentist 3 months ago, and she's been getting infection or overlaps since the last 2 month...her dentist suggested to get it pulled, it was my decision to have all four pulled at the same time, or one at a time..i suggested to get it over with,,pull all of her four top front teeth at the same time..i ask for the dentist opionion and he agree with me...what should i expect after her surgery or over the next couple of years...what about her perm. teeth...i guess i'm just scared i might make the wrong decision for my baby..

Good for you having second thoughts - most dentists would too.

A good dentist will try every route possible to save a tooth before extracting it. If he's willing to extract four to ward off some infections, then chances are he has a compelling reason for doing so. Ask him to explain to you with a reasonable amount of detail why he wants to extract the teeth. Odds are it will make some sense to you.

Aside from the apparent loss of function, the most significant purpose of those 4 teeth is to act as 'placeholders' for the upcoming permanent teeth. They sit in place and make sure that the surrounding teeth won't get in the way when a permanent tooth erupts, pushing out the primary. Your dentist can monitor the developing teeth with x-rays, and likely take action if any problems are foreseen.

As far as being concerned about the wrong decision, most people would be. Just remember, most dentists are very well trained, and you should be able to rest easy knowing that they agree with you.
Reply:don't worry... your dentist is the only one who can provide you with the right information. If he/she suggests ...go for it. The longer you wait...it might be damaging your daughter's other teeth.Condult dentist again and share your concerns
Reply:you should call you dentist up and ask him all of these questions. he will be able to answer these things properly and thoroughly. you should not be ashamed to ask him these things because it just shows that you are a caring parent who only wants the best for their child.
Reply:Follow the advice of your dentist and have them all pulled at once . They will probably put her under general anesthesia and do it in a hospital because of her age. She will be fine after the surgery. My nephew had the same thing done at the same age, and everything went well. If you don't take care of it now, it will affect her permanent teeth .
Reply:SHe may have a hard time eating ititally after the surgery
Reply:Children heal much faster then adults and he is correct my niece and nephew had to have it done. The neice was first my sister had them done one at a time and after the first the child did not want to go back was much more tramatic for her, so with my nephew she listened to the dentist and had all of them done at once first day a little sore but then fine and he didnt have to go through the trama four times. Listen to your dentist.
