How bad does it hurt to get your wisdom teeth pulled??
Mine didn't hurt at all...but I had a bomb doc who sedated me and then gave me so much pain medication, I couldn't have told up left from right.

You get this crazy looking ice pack to wrap around your head though, lol. NOT SEXY!
Reply:My daughter and nephew had their wisdom teeth out. They give you a prescription for pain pills. Important to keep icebag on your face to prevent swelling. You will be ok the next day. If it still hurts a little, you will have the pain pills. Don't worry. It's not bad.
Reply:I've had all of mine pulled. While it's not a pleasant experience, I really didn't think it was that bad. I HIGHLY recommend getting the nitrous oxide to relax you while it is being done. Depending on the method that they use to pull them it is a little tense when they are at the point of actually popping the tooth out. Once they are pulled they will have a wad on gauze on the incision site that you will have to change for a couple of hours. They may recommend that you refrain from using a straw for a few days to avoid dry socket. Hopefully they will be able to use the dissolvable stitches and you won't have to go back in a week. If they don't you will have to go back and they will have to snip and pull the stitches. That is a little awkward but it isn't bad. Honestly, for all the bad rap that having teeth pulled gets it's not really that awful. And not to sound to sound like a complete and total dork (oh, but I am!) try to go into it with a good attitude, it will help immensely. You might also want to take your Ipod to distract your mind.
Reply:get hold of a lot of pain relievers after the tooth extraction :)
Reply:LOOK OUT. IT'S A GINGER ahhhhhhhhhhh.

It hurts as bad as someone stabbing you over the back and you missy are ugly so I dare say the ugley the hag the more it will hurt ;)
Reply:Mine didn't hurt at all.

I went to a Maxilio Facial Surgeon, he put me to sleep, and I never felt anything.

Even days later, NO pain.

Good luck to you

Reply:Unfortunately, you usually only hear the horror stories. It's not that bad, and because you are young ( ;P ) you will heal quickly. You are numb during, and you get painkillers for the after.

It's different for everyone, but don't psych yourself out. You'll be fine!
Reply:Mine was a pretty horrid experience. They did not put me to sleep, because I was only pulling out my bottom wisdom teeth. They numbed me instead (those shots are so painful), but they didn't numb me enough. My wisdom teeth haven't even come out; they were still roots. So basically they were digging through my gums to get it out. Halfway through the process, the numbing wore down, and I thought I was going to die. Like I felt everything. And the dumb surgeon kept poking me and asking if it hurt. But the worst things always happen to me, so don't worry! My surgeon was just so careless and I trusted him. If you're being numbed, make sure that he's 100% sure that you won't feel a thing and that he's put enough of the anesthesia.

My friend had her's pulled out a few weeks ago, and she said it didn't hurt at all. She was sedated though. When she woke up, she just felt some aching but it was more of a discomfort.

Your cheeks and jaws will definitely be swollen for a good week. It'll be hard to chew, so you may have to resort to softer food for a while. There will be some aching, but as I've said, it's not that painful because they'll give you painkillers to take. It'll just bother you a lot, because your mouth will feel really full and uncomfortable.

Good luck! It's going to be okay!
Reply:Hopefully your dentist will be referring you to an Oral Surgeon. They specialize in extractions and are licensed to administer sedation. The worst part for most patients is a tiny pinch in the arm...they receive the meds through that site that makes you feel sleepy and a little goofy. Then you drift off, and the local injections (the shots inside the mouth) might be sort of felt, but you just don't care!! When you wake up, you'll keep saying, "It's over? You took all of them out? No way!" Of course, it'll sound more like, "umpth oba?" because you'll have gauze in your mouth that you need to bite on to stop the bleeding. You'll have a numb mouth for a few hours so it won't hurt to bite on the gauze. Besides, if you swallow blood it'll make your stomach really upset, and if you barf it'll only make you start bleeding more, then you might barf again! So keep biting on the gauze! Just take it out to get food in your stomach (ice cream, yogurt, applesauce) so you can take your pain medication before the numbness wears off. Ask your surgeon if the meds he prescribes would be okay to take with ibuprofen...if it's okay, start taking Advil or Motrin as soon as you get home (repeat every 4 hours), then start the narcotic (Vicodin, codeine) when you feel the tingling sensation that means the numbness will wear off soon. If you start to feel more "achy" 2-3 days after, go back to the surgeon and he can place a dressing the help reduce the pain of a dry socket.
Reply:I just got two pulled 6 days ago and it wasn't as bad as people had told me. I was scared and broke down crying to the dentist, he assured me that I wouldn't feel a thing. I was all numbed up. All he described to me was a feeling of pressure and that was exactly what it was. The only thing, is some people tend to have pain and swelling after the teeth have been extraced, fortuantely I didn't have either one. Just make sure that you follow the directions the dentist gives you for the post op care. Make sure you rinse your mouth with warm salt water the next day and do this several times a day. It will help with the healing process. Don't eat or drink anything through a straw, this might dislodge the clot and cause a dry socket. I heard these are painful but I was lucky not to have to experience it. Rest assured the initial pulling is not all those bad stories people tell you.
