Does everyone have to get their Wisdom teeth pulled sometime in their life?

I am getting braces in about month. I am so worried because I just hate braces, even though I have never had them before. I sometimes cry at night because I don't want braces. I would also like to know some tips and general information on Braces. I am in 6th grade at the moment and I'm very nervous. A couple of friends have braces, and they say I have to get teeth pulled, and that braces are the worst thing that can happen to you. I would also like to know about pain with putting them on. The tighting, and how long will I have to wear them at an average. I have an a very small mouth and an overbite, will I have to wear that head g ear thing at night or what ever? Thank-you for taking the time to read all of this. Please help as soon as possible.

I had braces on for over three years....and I had quite a few problems that needed to be fixed with them. I survived, though, and you will too! Ask your orthodontist to show you what he/she will need to do. They should know approximately how long it will take to fix and what you will need (such as headgear). Some general things that you might want to know: When you first get your braces on, it will hurt and take a few weeks to get used to, because you have all of this metal and plastic on your teeth. Your tongue and cheeks will probably be pretty sore the first few weeks. Every time you get the braces tightened (usually about once a month) it will hurt, too. Sometimes the pain for me was minor and didn't last long. Other times it hurt so bad I couldn't eat and didn't talk much. But if you take some tylenol before going into the office to get them tightened, it should make it easier.

One thing that is fun is that usually you get to choose the colors of the elastics. Sometimes I would make mine match the holidays - red and green around Christmas, orange and black around Halloween, etc.

Oh, I just remembered, you will have a lot more spit when you first get your braces on, so be careful of not spitting on people when you talk! lol

There will be some foods that you won't be allowed to eat...such as corn on the cob, apples (unless they are cut up), and hard candy.

Sometimes, parts of your braces might come off, or more often, the wire will pop out. This is normal, but good to be aware of. You can expect to have braces on for anywhere from one year to four....with an overbite and a small mouth I would say at least two, maybe more like three. But then again, I had braces a long time ago and maybe some things have changed.

Overall, the time and pain is worth it because when you get them off, you will have an amazing smile!
Reply:They probably won't 'knock you out', but they usually give you something to make you feel better. Have you ever had nitrous oxide at the dentist's office? Some orthodontists will let you have that. I would ask before you go in, if they have something to make you feel better.Good luck and take care! Report It

Reply:Thank you so, uch for the information. I get braces this Friday 16, 2007. I am still very nervous, but, WHO CARES! Report It

Reply:ya
Reply:I get to keep mine. If you have enough room in your mouth and they dont bother you, most dentists will suggest having them removed, but its unnecessary dentistry so they can charge you more money. Braces are not the worst thing to happen to you, and when you take them off, your smile will be beautiful. Nothing worth having is easy... so just deal with it now, and you'll LOVE your smile later. Good luck
Reply:If you don't you are one in a million that doesn't.
Reply:I've never worn braces so I can't help you to much on that subject. I can say that afterwards, everyone I've ever known that has worn them said that it sucked but they are very glad they went through it.

As for the wisdom teeth thing it is my understanding that no, it is not mandatory to pull them. However, almost everyone winds up having some sort of problem with them and eventually gets them pulled. Having them pulled before they become a problem usually limits the amount of pain and trouble they cause. So it is usually recommended to get them out.
Reply:depends on how big your mouth is. if u have a small mouth when they come out then yes. but if u have a big mouth then no because they will have room to grow and wont mess up your teeth.
Reply:Don't worry, they're not as bad as you think, or as people have been telling you. My little sister had to have braces and she was just as worried and nervous. But now she has had them off she's so glad she had them because her teeth are perfectly straight and she's forever smiling and showing her teeth off.

In some cases some of the teeth have to removed, but thats only to make room for new teeth growing or new teeth to fit into the natural line of the teeth.

I don't think you will need the head thingy. My sister said that its a bit uncomfortable when the braces are tightened but after a few hours you get used to it and hardly notice it. She had to wear her's for about one year but everyone is different. Get them done while you are young, you don't want to be an adult with braces do you?

Try and relax everyone's experiences are different. Good Luck, you'll have a perfect smile in no time x
Reply:My mom never got wisdom teeth and she's in her forties. I'm 25 and I don't have wisdom teeth.

So, you might not even get them.
Reply:Don't worry about braces. I know they are a bad thing to have but if you think about if, everyone has either had them or will have them. I've wanted braces when I was younger so don't feel bad, be happy.
Reply:It won't be nearly as bad as you think. Sometimes they pull back teeth to allow the other teeth to grow into proper alignment so that your teeth are straight and healthy in the future. You will be medicated so don't worry too much about pain. Your friends are trying to freak you out. How long you wear them depends on the degree of straightening that your teeth need.
Reply:Look, I wore braces for almost 5 years and its not a big deal.It never really hurts at all but it does make your mouth and teeth a little sore when they tighten them up and change out the wires. It is likely that wisdom teeth will come in but not everyone gets wisdom teeth.Besides I have seen people not actually get them till they are in their late twenties or early thirties. Most times they do come in irregular or not in the right place and can be painful.I would let the orthodontist worry about all that.

Don't listen to your friends. They more than likely are just trying to scare you.I never heard of anyone having bad pain with braces.Relax buddy, If this is all you will have to go through in life, your life will be a breeze.
Reply:I hope not, I'm 28 and I've not had any teeth pulled!
Reply:So I had braces for about 3 years in junior high and high school. They're uncomfortable, generally unattractive and just generally a pain in the ***. However, there is good news. You're getting them at a really young age, so by the time your braces are ready to come off, everyone else will just be getting them. You are ahead of the game. Also, it's pretty normal for kids to have braces, so don't expect to be teased that much. And if you are being teased about it (or anything else for that matter), don't waste any time feeling badly about yourself, because their opinion on the situation is totally irrelevant.

And not everyone has to have their wisdom teeth taken out. I'm pretty sure it's only if your molars become impacted. Or, if you're like me, you were born without them, so you won't have to worry about it at all!

Good luck!
Reply:No, not everyone has to have wisdom teeth pulled. I only had to have one pulled and they knocked me out for that one. Braces are a temporary thing that you'll be glad your parents forked out for later in life. Braces are NOT the worst thing that can happen to you! The tightening isn't all that bad, you can go to school right after. I come from the day when each tooth had to be banded and tightening really hurt! But we went to school anyway. Whether or not you need headgear, is up to your orthodontist. My BIL had really bad teeth and still has to wear a retainer at 52 years old. But I'm sure his teeth were alot worse than yours and you'll be just fine.
Reply:I never wore braces so i can't help you on that. I did have to get my wisdom teeth pulled because my mouth was too small to hold them. On two of them the bone had to be broken and then they were pulled. The other two were cut out and pulled. they were growing crooked and it hurt because of pressure against my other teeth. Some people don't have to have them pulled. Just try not to be nervous and you will do fine.
Reply:Nope, not everybody has to have them pulled, I still have mine, but my sister had to have all hers pulled. I have never had braces, but don't be scared, once you get through it, you will love your beautiful smile!
Reply:OK, when I was a teener, a long time ago, I had braces. It was horrifyingly painful. Flash forward to 3 years ago, my son needed braces. He said there was NO pain, some minor discomfort. And it took me 3 years to get braces removed, he had his removed in a year and a half. Time has changed GREATLY as far as braces goes. He wore metal and plastic mouth pieces during the day never the end, but not the head piece at night. Depends upon how much overbite you have. Even the mouth pieces he said were not that bad.

AS for removing teeth. I had my wisdom teeth removed. Unfortunately WE ALL have to have our wisdom teeth removed. Our mouth has more teeth than we need. If you do not remove them, they will push your other teeth all over the place.

When they did mine, they put me to sleep, removed them. I woke up and my mouth bleed for 3 days. Awful. Some pain, but the bleeding was what bothered me the most. All that cotton!!

When they did my son, last year. They did NOT put him to sleep. They gave him shots. He said it was awful, the pulling and tugging, and afterwards, he had brusing on his face that hurt, a LOT of 4 days afterwards, even with pain pills. He said it was the worse he had ever felt. I and my wife felt terrible for him, told off the dentist, only to find that this is the way it is done today.

NO PUTTING YOU TO SLEEP. What is with this?

Hope this helps. I am 54 to show you how long ago I had it done.
Reply:I know I am in my 40 's and have never had my wisdom teeth pulled so I wouldn't worry about wisdom teeth yet ....... my daughter is 17 and she is just about to get braces to correct an overcrowding problem they are not going to take any of her teeth out they just want to straighten she wants to have it done cause if she doesn't and has to at some time have to have teeth pulled she will have gaps in the front because of her age the teeth will not move like they would if she was younger so I would let my classmates scare you over it I think having it done now will save u problems in the future
Reply:Everyone doesn't have to get their wisdom teeth pulled.

My son had what sounds like the same problem you have. I know you don't want to do it, but they will be beautiful when you get to high school. Both of my children had braces and their teeth are gorgeous now.

It is true some of the treatment isn't particularly comfortable. But aspirin will make them feel better. Hydrogen peroxide should help as a mouth wash also. It will kill pain and heal the tender areas.

The time depends on what you need. My daughter was only 2 years. My son (he is adopted and his mouth is very different than his sisters) Took longer. Mostly because his mouth was small and his baby teeth wouldn't come out. So yes they had to pull 6 of his baby teeth. But baby teeth have very little roots by the 6th grade.

Please be patient and you will get through it and be beautiful for High School. Take a headset and an I pod or whatever you can listen to music on while they work in your mouth. It will take your mind off of what they are doing.

Good Luck.
Reply:this has nothing to do with wisdom teeth. i dont have any wisdom teeth which is extremely rare, and usually a person has to get at least one pulled. in answer to your braces, im getting them soon and they are definately NOT the worst thing to happen to you. i just like an hour ago got 2 teeth pulled for braces and next month i have to get 2 more. it didnt hurt a bit and for now its all over. most people wear braces for 2-3 years and get them tightened every month. really, its not that bad. my grandpa is having heart surgery soon now that is scary. think about that in relation to your problem. it could always be worse.
