I am getting 4 wisdom teeth pulled this week. I am really nervous. They are doing the twilight sleep. I am not really sure what that means. They are also cutting a piece of my bone out. Has anyone done that? For the women out there... What was worse having a baby or getting your dental work done? I had my daughter with no epidural. I figure if I can do that I can do anything.
What is worse? Getting your wisdom teeth pulled or having a baby? I am getting mine done this week...: (?
I was really worried when I had all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out. I was surprised how easy it turned out to be. They knocked me out completely so I didn't feel anything during it. I spent a long weekend on the couch watching tons of movies and popping Advil. I did get some nasty bruises on my face but I'm very pale and bruise real easy. I've never had a kid so I can't respond on that pain but don't worry about the teeth...it won't be as bad as you think.
Reply:Baby. I remember thinking on the delivery table "I'll never complain about a toothache again."
They'll numb you up a lot. Don't be brave--if you feel any pain at all, let them know. Twilight sleep I'm guessing is nitrous oxide. You'll feel so good you won't care what they're doing.
Reply:2 totally different types of pain!
Reply:Having a baby, my GOD , it doesn't even compare! Not even on the same chart, if you got through childbirth you can do anything!
Reply:With getting the teeth pulled, you will be out of it and it won't take long at all. With the baby you are wide awake and my labor took 32 hrs. so I would definately say having a baby would be worse. Good luck to you.
Reply:You really shouldn't feel a thing when having your teeth taken out. I'm guessing the 'twilight sleep' is referring to concious sedation, which is basically just making you a bit sleepy, but you'll still be awake and will be able to respond to the dentist, this will help reduce the pain. On top of that you will be numbed up where the teeth are so again no pain.
As for drilling bone out it's quite a routine part of taking wisdom teeth out, and it shouldn't add to the pain.
Just remember you will feel pushing and pulling, the anaesthetic only numbs the pain nerves, not the ones that make you feel the pressure. But this is only uncomfortable really, not painful, and can't be avoided I'm afraid.
Last thing is expect the areas where the teeth were to be sore afterwards when the anaesthetic has worn off, I'm sure the dentist will tell you this anyway. Also if he doesn't suggest it ask him if you can take some painkillers BEFORE the procedure, so that afterwards when it's done and the anaesthetic wears off it'll be less painful.
So ye, really don't worry about it, it won't be as bad as you think and shouldn't hurt. I'm sure nothing like giving birth (I'm not a woman so I wouldn't know anyway :) )
Reply:never had wisdom teeth pulled but i can tell you having a baby hurts alot!
