I have school soon, and I don't want to go with my breath smelling like blood. I don't know if I should brush my teeth or not because I just got my wisdom tooth pulled a day ago. Does anyone know if it's OK to use mouth wash %26amp; brush my teeth?
Can I used mouth wash %26amp; brush my teeth a day after I got my wisdom tooth pulled? My mouth smells of blood.?
Call your oral surgeon and ask him to be sure. I'm pretty sure you aren't supposed to brush this soon after the surgery because you can accidentally remove the blood clots that are forming and cause bleeding or a condition called "dry socket" which is very painful. Try gargling with some salt water which will kill bacteria and drink some minty flavored tea. You could try just using your tooth brush to brush your tongue. That is where a lot of bacteria build up which can cause bad breath. I can't believe your oral surgeon didn't send you home with some papers that would answer some of these questions for you.
Reply:no mouthwash, brush teeth as far back as you feel is comfortable.
Reply:YES! JUST KEEP THE BRUSH AWAY FROM THAT AREA
Reply:yes of course. If it smells why wouldn't you brush it. Don't forget to brush first, then use mouth wash to rid the excess smell, food, plaque hiding between those teeth. =)
Reply:Um, you really shouldn't go to school after having wisdom teeth extracted, especially if they have you on any pain medications. I do not suggest brushing your teeth. I suggest using the mouthwash/rinse that they prescribed you for before and after your extractions. Your toothbrush is full of bacteria and viruses and you do not want that getting into the holes. It also depends on whether your doctor gave you orders to remove/change your packing of gauze, etc.
Not a doctor, just a paramedic
Reply:just make yourself a bit of salt water (half a glass) and swish it around in your entire mouth. the salt is said to be good for open wounds in the mouth.
if you start messing with the normal stuff too soon you may just cause yourself unnecessary pain.
Reply:Please do not use mouth wash, or brush your teeth, I am afraid you will get a dry socket. Not only is that painfull, but you will be required to make many trips back to the dentist to have cotton plugs put in the hole. The blood clot formed after your tooth was pulled is the best plug for the opening. You do not want to do anything to make it go away. In about five days it will be safer to rince with salt water. And your classmates will understand, almost everyone has had a tooth pulled.
Reply:You cannot brush your teeth yet but you can rinse with a prescrition mouthwash called Peridex ,you can also rinse with peroxide it is better to follow this because healing will be faster then you can brush in the next 24 hours
Reply:yes, you can go ahead and brush those toothers away. the peridontal is already built up, so topical applications of any tooth paste or wouth swoosh is fine. you need to cleanse that blood.
Reply:it is not OK to brush yet. You will get an infection. Rinse your mouth out with salt water. gargle with it for at least three days.
Reply:Simple answer. Wash your mouth with plain water after brushing and then use a mouthwash. If you mouth still tastes of blood, put an ounce of hydrogen peroxide (3 percent) in a glass and add 5 ounces of water and gargle. Then rinse your mouth out again. The hydrogen peroxide will make the blood foam and get rid of the blood taste. If bleeding persists, go back to your dentists.
Reply:You better brush your teeth or you'll be going back to have rotten teeth removed. Yuck!
Reply:NO to the mouth wash, you could try rinsing in warm salty water this aids in the healing, swelling and pain if any as for brushing, just keep away from affected area.
Reply:I am a dentist and can probably help/guide you. Brushing and cleaning your tongue should help you with smell. However, if you want to use mouth was make sure you use a natural mouth wash or any mouth wish with least amount of alcohol in it. Listerine has very high percentage of alcohol and it tends to dry the blood clot and you may have problem with bleeding.
Diluted hydrogen peroxide or warm salt water rinses wll also help. What ever you do, try not to disturb the blood clot. Hope that helps. If the bllod clot is disturbed, you may develp a dry clot which extremely painful and needs frequent trips to the dentists office. Good luck
Reply:you're not supposed to because you run the risk of getting dry socket, but i did, and i never had any problems. it's up to you.
Reply:If you do this now [considering you just have it pulled] - you're probably doing this too soon. If I were you..I would swish with salt water and then brush VERY GENTLY to the affected area. I'm sure [you should] you have a follow-up appointment to this procedure. When you go then, ask if all is well and to brush, mouthwash and floss normally. Be extra careful right now in what you do, you don't want an infection. Trust me, that is VERY painful!!!
Reply:I believe salt-water rinses are the best. Limit your physical activity and chewing until the clots are solid. when I had all four of mine pulled at once, my jaw was sore for quite a while. Vitamin C might help the healing process. Call the dentist's office to ask about the home-care routine for your particular case.
