When is it safe to smoke after having teeth pulled?

I just had to molar teeth pulled and I ws wondering how long should I go before I can smoke a cig? I was doing some reading and what the heck is a dry socket? Any feedback would be great

at least 3 days!!! the docs tell you to stay away from smoking for a week (cuz most patients dont follow rules, so we tell them to stay away for a longer period)





Dry socket is when there is loss of the blood clot which exposes the bone to air, food, and fluids along with an offensive odor. This often occurs two or more days after an extraction and can last about 5-6 days. It is normal to have soreness and discomfort following an extraction.


However, pain should be lessening by the second day.

but that was before I quit smoking dude, it's never safe to smoke so what do you care about a dry socket.
Reply:the smoke will make you lose the clot and you don't want that.

Reply:A dry socket can be painful for up to a year after extraction. Do not only not smoke but do not use a straw either. I have a dry socket after many times of tempting fate it finally GOT ME. It was a terrific pain that lasted a year. Follow your DR. orders for your own well being.

Reply:Not sure what a "dry socket" is but I know it is painful and can cause problems. Now is a good time to quit smokeing. Just think, whiter teeth, much nicer smile, better smelling breath, less chance of problems with your lungs and heart, and less chance of Cancer later in life. Do yourself and your family a favor.

Reply:I've heard that you should wait at least three days. And that's exactly what I did. After day three I started smoking again with no problems. Just make sure you rinse your mouth with water ALOT. Or you could just quit smoking all together. It's not as hard as you think with the right attitude and using the patch. Good luck.

Give up smoking, your going to have to go outside to smoke now anyway well in a few days. . . roll on July 1st I say. Anyway yeah, just give up.

Reply:well They say a couple hrs up to 24 hrs.But I usually smoke within 15 minutes after I got mine Done.Dry socket will Hurt Like you would not believe if you get one.A dry socket is where they just pulled the tooth it will not heal and it can get infected.I think you should be fine Smoking a cigarette ,I do not suggest you drink from a straw for a few days!! Try eating fries with salt it will heal where you got your tooth pulled a bit faster than normal.
