What do dentists do with your teeth after they have been pulled?

I just had three wisdom teeth pulled and was curious. I forgot to ask the dentist.

What do dentists do with your teeth after they have been pulled?
We either throw them in a "biohazard" container so they can be properly destroyed or sometimes we have dental students ask us to save extracted teeth for them so they can use them to practice.





We don't usually give people their teeth unless they are "baby" teeth. They just have too many germs on them.

Reply:when i was younger i had some pulled and they gave them back to me lol so i could give them 2 the tooth fairy. i guess they usually just get put with all the other medical wasteage
Reply:They either dispose of them as a biohazard waste, or give them to dental students like me to practice endo on. Your dentist probably put your three wisdom teeth right into the red biohazard bin. Wisdom teeth (third molars) are pretty useless to me as a student, because about the only thing you do with a third molar is pull it. It is such a weird tooth (no real consistensy in what it looks like, what it is made up of), so you really don't want to spend the time or the money in trying to restore them. And they don't fit in most people's mouth. That is why they usually just pull them.
Reply:That is a very good question! I have nevcer thought about it...but my best guess is they are disposed of the same as blood, and tissue are....pretty much treated as hazerdos materials. There are companys that pick up and properly dispose....I would guess they are incinerated. But I am gonna have to ask my dentist!

Reply:The end up in the biohazard trash. I actually asked an oral surgeon this question today. My daughter had 4 wisdom teeth cut out. She asked if she could have them, and they said they arent allowed to give them to ya....not sure why...they were HER friggin teeth after all!!


well, i'm off to the bio-dumpster to get what's wrightfully mine!!!!!
