I'm Scared Of Getting Braces And Getting My Teeth Pulled Out! Plz! Help Plz!?
it depends where your teeth are. i had to get 4 pulled, and so they put me under anisthesia(sp?). that way when u wake up u feel little pain. some people just get a like a shot or a pill to numb the teeth then they pull them. it really only hurts for a little bit afterwards. now braces, it doesnt hurt when they put them on, afterwards it does but all you have to do is take some advil and avoid really cold water. i made that mistake and my it hurt for some reason. eat soft foods, like potatoes, jello, yogurt. avoid ice, gum and most fruits except bananas for the first couple of weeks. You really dont feel that much pain until after u get ure braces on. just relax and breathe while they are putting them on, it goes a lot easier. most people will try to scare you and tell you it hurts like hell, but it doesnt, its like getting punched on a bruise. idk, it doesnt hurt that bad
Reply:it doesnt hurt at all to get braces but as far as the teeth puling i dont know bout that
Reply:its worth it in the long run. having teeth removed isnt actually that painful, and braces hurt a little for the first few days as there pulling your teeth but after that you cant feel them.
if your that worried about having teeth removed ask for a general anesthetic....they did this for my young sister but not every where offers it.
small price to pay for perfect teeth?
Reply:First: when you get into the dental chair request to have nitrous-oxide (laughing gas) They will put a little mask on your nose and you will breath the gas for a few minutes.
This will calm you down and make the appointment easier for you.
Second: The dentist will get you numb--yes, this is a shot,
But before you panic, let me tell you that having injections in the mouth are not terribly uncomfortable, just a sting. Usually the assistant will place a gel on the gums that will numb the tissue before the shot is given--this helps a lot. It is just a small pinch--you probably won't feel it at all.
Third: When you are numb the dentist uses an instrument to loosen the gums away from the teeth, then elevates the teeth with a straight metal instrument that he places at the base of the tooth and gently pries the tooth up.
Fourth: The dentist will use forceps (dental pliers) to get a hold on the tooth and lift it the rest of the way out of the bone.
You will hear crackling noises and feel lots of pressure but NO pain.
Fifth: the dentist or assistant will place gauze in your mouth over the sockets where the teeth were removed and have you bite tight on them. This will help the area form a blood clot. Then they will explain what to do and what not to do to help heal the area.
You may have some discomfort when the numbness wears off but that can be controlled with Tylenol or Advil. Sometimes the doctor will prescribe pain meds but not always for kids your age.
Going to the orthodontist will not be too scary after having the teeth removed--you will be less frightened because you know what dental appointments are like. It is uncomfortable to have braces for the first few weeks--but with some Advil and soft foods you will get through it okay. The Orthodontist or assistant will tell you what you can and cannot eat and will give you instructions on how to care for your braces.
Good luck and relax, it's going to be 0K.
Reply:Don't lose sleep over any of them. They are really not painful at all. I had braces, I miss having sometimes. :)
Reply:chill, you'll like it in the long run
Reply:Getting braces doesnt hurt. You just feel a little pain AFTER you get them. For a few days. And getting teeth pulled- ehh. I hate it. I got 5 teeth pulled. THe numbing shots- OUCH! x/ and then the pulling of the teeth is like barely anything. best of luck.
Reply:Which teeth are you having pulled out? If it's your wisdom teeth, that's pretty much what everyone has to do. But if it's like bicuspids you might want to find out if you can try to see if the braces will move your teeth into a position where you can keep those bicuspids. When I got my braces they told me I'd have to have the same extractions, but I wore my headgear and rubberbands faithfully and not only didn't have the bicuspids taken out, I got my braces off 4 months early!
