Im getting put to sleep to get them out and they have to cut me open because they're not out yet but they are growing out badly and making my teeth all messed up, so how badly does it hurt after i wake up and all the procedures done?? Im scared

I also had my wisdom teeth taken out under sedation; while my gums were sore for several days, it wasn't anything huge. For the first few days, I had pain medication (probably something like Vicodin or Tylenol 3, although I don't recall exactly); I only used it for three or four days, by which time the healing process was well under way, and I didn't need them. If your dentist gives you antibiotics, be sure to take them ALL. Take the pain killers he gives you as you need to do so - it's been determined in many studies that pain slows healing. If he gives you a rinse to use, use it consistently, being sure to "swish" gently; if he does not, then use warm salty water to gently rinse your mouth. DON'T drink through a straw, or drink carbonated drinks, for at least 72 hours; doing so can dislodge the clot and cause a very painful condition called "dry socket." Likewise, don't smoke for at least 72 hours, so that the blood vessels in the area don't constrict and lessen the blood flow to the area.
Reply:i had all my wisdom teeth cut out at once it doesnt hurt until the anesthesia wears off then it hurts for like 2 weeks. But u get vicodin.
Reply:dont be scared,I had all 4 removed at the same time because of the same reason.....they should give you pain meds afterwards wich will help....but i promise they put you down and you wake up with gauze in your mouth but wont feel anything due to the narcotics they give you......the only part that is uncomfortable is getting food in the holes because they are deep holes for a while. But no worries they heal up and it looks like you never had teeth there at all.All in all dont worry the worst pain you will have is the IV going in after that its smooth sailing.
Reply:It usually huts pretty bad for a couple days. Alot depends on you pain tolerance. Most gve pain pills to help with the pain afterwards.
Reply:I am a Registered Dental Hygienist. First of all, make sure you are going to a reputable dentist for this procedure. Preferably an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. You will have general anesthetic, as well as local anesthetic for this procedure. When the procedure is done, you will have no pain. Afterwards, pain will be very minimal. I had this done myself a year ago, and everything went fine. Most likely, the dentist will prescribe some pain medication and antibiotics to prevent infection. To minimize any pain or complications follow instructions carefully. There is no reason to be scared. Dentists are trained to make all procedures as pain free as possible. Plan on eating a lot of jello, soup, milkshakes, and pudding for a few days.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth cut out right before thanksgiving and i had just gotten my braces on a couple months before...I was terrified and didn't want to be put to sleep to have it done but.....It's not bad at all, i'm actually fixing to go in and have a dermagraph done on my gums and they're not putting me to sleep, i'm wanting the i.v. again. After i got my wisdom teeth out they didn't hurt at all, the stitches they gave me disappeared in a couple days and i didn't have to take any of the pain meds they gave me. Its really nothing, a piece of cake...actually i ate some thanksgiving dinner the very next day. If i can do it and not fuss about it, anyone can...I thought it'd be terrible and cancelled my appointment three times before i went ahead and had it done, it's really simple tho....you'll be fine!!

Good Luck
Reply:I had one done last Monday, no big deal. I was awake with only a local (Novocaine) and it took 15 minutes. Make sure you ice the areas on and off for the rest of the day and have Advil handy for a few days. The most I had was a slight headache that night and a little tenderness when I moved my jaw side to side. Easy as pie.
