I am 22 and just went to the dentist for a cleaning after about 5 years. He told me it "looked" like I would need them pulled, and then said it "was up to me" whether I wanted them done soon or not.
I have one already coming in on my lower left side and I'm freaking out thinking it's already impacted because it's just poking through. I have no idea when it started coming in because I usually don't care about my teeth.
I want to know if getting them pulled can wait a year or so because I don't want to pay for insurance I'm not going to use in the near future (poor college graduate here!). Or should I just suck it up and get it done now while I'm on the young side?
I am experiencing no pain at all thus far and my other wisdom teeth haven't even started coming in. When they x-rayed me it looked like a few of them were coming in at an angle though... which scares me. Someone help me... I just want to know if I can wait!
How long can I wait to get my wisdom teeth pulled?
I had one come through 10 years ago %26amp; it's just fine. I don't plan on doing anything about it, until/unless I have to.
Reply:If they don't bother you, I wouldn't worry about getting them pulled. You are lucky. I had mine pulled when I was 16 because they hurt me so much. Having them pulled is a real surgery (outpatient, but nevertheless surgery). They put me to sleep. If you don't need it don't do it because the recovery is not fun. Your face swells up and you can't eat anything you want. Trust me, I wouldn't choose that if I didn't need it. Good luck. :-)
Reply:Impacted just means that they have not yet broken the surface and require real surgery to be removed. If you are not experiencing any pain then do not have them out. If it was important to get them out, say there isn't enough room or they were comiing in wrong (one of mine was sideways on the x-ray), he wouldn't have told you it was your choice. Also if after they come in they bother you, it will just be a simple tooth extraction to get rid of them.
Reply:Okay I just had an ortho appionment this morning and he said the only reason dentists like to pull wisdom teeth is for the money. You don't need to take them out unless they hurt you or anything other wise leave them in and save that money. He said that they don't have any effect on your teeth they are jus tthere to sit and be teeth. They don't move yoru teeth or anything. He said hi mom just passed away at the age of 97 and her wisdom teeth came in slightly at an angle and she never had pains or anything so she got to save the money and lose no wisdom teeth. So only take them out if they are hurting you in any way. Goodluck!!
Reply:Always have your wisdom teeth and abscessed teeth removed by a specialist oral %26amp; Maxillofacial surgeon (who are both dentists and doctors). To find out about impacted teeth, prophylactic wisdom tooth surgery, general tooth extraction (including adjacent tooth shifts), types of anesthesia (oral sedation, IV sedation, local LA or general GA), stitches, complications, dry socket, lump lip or tongue, bone grafts, post operative care and medications, orthognathic surgery and dental implants in Australia, go to http://www.dentalimplantsaustralia.com/
Reply:The majority of wisdom teeth need to be removed. It is best removed around the age of 19 when the majority of them first erupt. An Xray will show them up. The money spent to remove wisdom teeth is well spent. The complications caused by wisdom teeth is far worst than the surgery itself. Murphy's law exert a strong influence on wisdom teeth. When pain has occurred it can only mean it is the last straw on the camel's back. The site may have scarred tissue , colonies of material that brings forth post operative complications such as Dry Socket etc. Worst case is when an impacted tooth has penetrated the next molar resulting either in its lost or expensive root canal treatment follow by a more expensive crown. Don't wait for signs and symptoms. just do it.
