I'm 24 and still have my wisdom teeth. they halfway grew in when I was 16 and I was in pain, but by time I went to the dentist, he siad it would probably be more painful to pull them out since the pain had stopped at that time. When I was 23, they grew in some more and I got a gum infection cause the tooth was cutting into my gum and I was given medication, which stopped hte pain and the infection. About a week ago, one tooth hurt for a couple of days and then stopped. Should I still seek a dentist to pull them out at some point in time although they no longer hurt at this moment?
Should I go to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth pulled?
Go to your dentist. He'll refer you to an oral surgeon - I wouldn't trust my dentist pulling out my teeth - Even though they don't hurt now, they can still cause problems later.
If you can afford it ( I know most post grads are in major debt and lucky if they even have health insurance) do it. My mother waited until she was forty because they bother her until then - she didn't work for two weeks.
You're still young enough to heal really quickly - the longer you wait, the longer it will take you to recover.
Reply:It would be best that you do go to the dentist and ask them what would be the best thing to do. Wisdom teeth can cause a lot of problems in your mouth including crowding, so it's better to get them checked out as soon as possible instead of waiting until further damage can be done.
The fact that they were hurting you might be a symptom of a bigger problem.
Reply:It depends on how painful the removal will be which depends on the positioning of the teeth
Reply:I would suggest you call your dentist and ask for a referral to be sent to whatever oral surgeon they are affiliated with. From there I would get them out asap before you get any older. I am 21 and I got mine out yesterday and the roots were pretty much fully formed. You'll be fine, just get them out before they cause further problems. Best of luck to you!
