has anyone had all their teeth pulled at the same time? How long will he be in pain?
My man is getting all 15 teeth pulled at the same time for dentures.?
I did, I was 17 %26amp; had a gum disease. Back then, 1963, it was done in the office. I had only Novacain. 18 shots in all. the only one I felt was the first %26amp; that wasn't all that bad. My false teeth were made ahead of time %26amp; put in the day my teeth were removed. All my top teeth were removed. Because of the disease, the roots broke away from the teeth and my gums had to be cut just to remove the roots. Now, they would never do it in an office setting. He will probably go to the hospital for that %26amp; come home the same day. Tell him I wish him good luck %26amp; prayers. I know his pain.
Reply:My husband had this done about 8 years ago. He had 12 pulled in one day. There was a lot of swelling and pain for about 1 week. The dentist will give something for the pain and ice packs worked well. Hope all goes well!
Reply:I had a close friend who had 14 pulled at once about 4 years ago. He swears deciding to do that was the best decision he could make. The procedure took less than 2 hours, and he says other than sitting through the slightly extended removal time, the pulling was no worse than having a tooth pulled.
As far as recovery goes, he said the gums were merely sore for the first few days (except for a time or two he tried eating something he wasn't ready for) He had to spend a full day with gauze in his mouth instead of a few hours. Was on a liquid diet for 3 days, and very soft foods for about 7 days after that.
He actually decided to not get dentures (that parts crazy if you ask me) but if he had, he would have been mesured for them after a week, and would have started wearing them at 2 weeks, amd there would have been a few weeks there of his gums being sore because of the dentures (from what I've heard from family wearing dentures, getting used to the dentures is the worst part).
Overall, he'll be no worse for doing all his teeth at once really than if he had two done.
Good luck and a speedy recovery to your man!
Reply:i had 26 pulled at one time. pain factor depends on bone/tooth fragments that may be left behind and will work thier way out slowly, whether it involves stitching, and the amount of time lapse before dentures are placed. i was given only local anastesia, no stitching, and had dentures placed imediantly. Swelling was down in two days, lots of ice packs and salt water rinses, and pain was maybe five days, thanks to meds. good luck and hope he doesn't suffer too much. look forward to the great smile
Reply:Never forget that good old standby - cloves. Holding a whole clove against the gum or dabbing (not smearing) a bit of real clove oil is a great way to ease the pain because it numbs the gums slightly. Remember that slightly funky feeling when chewing clove gum? That's why...
Reply:I just had 1 tooth pulled on the 20th. The spot where the tooth was is still sore a little bit. I'm babying it though. Buy a lot of bottled water and straws. And apple sauce and tomato soup to eat.
