Can the orthodontist pull teeth?

im just wondering.

Can the orthodontist pull teeth?
All orthodontists have the training necessary to perform simple extractions. Whether they want to or not is an entirely differnent story. Most orthodontists I know do, if it is a simple "yank it out" kind. Anything more complicated and they will likely refer you back to your dentist or an oral surgeon.
Reply:I would think they can they do work on putting on braces and if there are teeth in the way I can't see them sending you to a dentist then come back to them.
Reply:Yep, they can!
Reply:Yes they work with braces and pull teeth
Reply:no. it's ur dentists that do it.
Reply:Only if the tooth is loose already. My orthodontist sent me to an oral surgery to have 2 teeth pulled before I had braces put on.
Reply:I think they can .
Reply:A lot of people don't realize that an orthodontist is a General Dentist with years more training to specialize in orthodontics (braces) so yes they can. Most don't because they sometimes don't have the tools to do it (to numb, etc) so they will refer them to a general dentist or oral surgeon since they do it on a daily basis. Also, if it is a baby tooth, they will sometimes take it out there in the ortho office. Hope that helps!
Reply:Yes they can.

By definition, orthodontist is the study, care, the improvement, control and modification of one's dental growth. However, to become an orthodontist, one has to become a dentist first. (4 yrs of undergra, 2-3 yrs of gra, and other 1-3 to specialize in cosmetic correction in the dental field.).

Although, I've been noticing a secondary dentist/orthodontist is usually present to preform the removal of teeth.(So, if your orthodontist isn't doing the removal, he/she will have someone else do it for them.).
