My wisdom teeth are coming in and they ache alot and my gum is really swollen. I have to set an appointment on getting them removed?

Although getting your wisdom teeth pulled can be painful it is only for about a day if you are careful and follow the Dentist's instructions. The Dentist should also give you pain medication to help. If you don't get them pulled they could become impacted which is very painful or shift the way your teeth currently are to make room for them. This can not only be painful but also cause for your teeth to become pushed together and crooked. I always suggest getting them pulled so that they will not bother you in the future.
Reply:i think its good. i had all of mine pulled at one time. the first day was painful, but they gave me tylenol w/ codein, that made the pain stop. the 2nd day no pain, your face will get swollen though. my advice is put a warm washcloth on your face, that helps swelling go down and pain. after 2 or 3 days you may be a little swollen but pain should be gone.
Reply:The novocane shots pretty much take care of the pain, although you may feel pressure when they are removed. I did not have to have surgery as mine were not impacted, and it was an in office procedure and I drove myself home (although I wouldn't recommend it again). The nitrous made me feel dizzy and sweaty...I don't think it relaxed me...actually made me more anxious. They let me "rest it off" after the procedure.





I was sore the next couple of days and ate soft food for several days...but it was worth it in the end because I was no longer getting food caught in the gum line...no more infections!
Reply:I was asleep when they did it, so no problems there. I was uncomfortable for a few weeks afterward, but my doctor urged me to do it because he said that if you wait too long, then the teeth can be too fragile to remove easily.
Reply:I did mine without anesthesia, just some novocaine. That stuff worked like a charm and I got to stay awake for the whole thing. I saved $500 and it didn't even really hurt after the painkillers wore off.

Reply:depends on how deep they're in your gums. you might be a little swollen but the oral surgeon will usually give you some pain meds. frozen veggies are a must for keep on your face if it swells (just make sure to refreeze them if they start to get smelly lol)

Reply:I was scared to get mine done too. But it didn't hurt cause i was knocked out and afterwards, they give you pain medicine. You will have to have someone drive you home though. You get to sleep a while afterwards too, which was a great rest for me.
Reply:As long as your dentist says there isn't much room, just take them out. It isn't too hard. I would request to be put under, I did, and it seemed like it lasted 15 seconds then I woke up. I was so druged it barely hurt, I was pretty much considered drunk when I woke up. I was convincing my mom on the way home that I was fine, so I started eating M%26amp;Ms with the cotton still in my mouth!! :)
Reply:its sore after you get 'em pulled, but its better than leaving 'em in. If you leave them in for a long time while they are inflicting pain on you, they could get infected. also, they should get removed because if your gums get over-swollened or/and they keep coming in, they can abstruck your air way- causing swollen of lungs, asthma, and whopping cough.





when getting them pulled, some doctors give you a choice::: the most used way is to just get novacane (a pain shot) and have you get to stay awake and feel what they do. the other way, is the most perferred, but doesn't happen as often; you get put to sleep with an IV and laughing gas... you don't feel when they pull it out while you are asleep, but you have some symptoms afterwards.





I chose sleeping, because I have had pain shots and this way, it was much easier...i had some symptoms afterwards- a little nausea little gumaches, but it was better than being awake.
Reply:Mine were removed all at once, using Novacaine and Nitrous Oxide, I didn't feel anything. They were impacted and very difficult to remove the dentist had to use his muscles - lol. My jaws took about a month to feel fairly normal. There was a lot of bleeding the first day or two which is kind of gross. Better to get it over with while you are younger and esp. if you have insurance.
