Mother was taken to hospital after dentist errantly pulled two teeth - what measures should be taken?

My mom had a bad infection in her tooth, and the dentist pulled it and a wisdom tooth right behind it. This happened last Wednesday. Since then, the swelling has been extreme, and her throat felt like it was closing up, and her jaw hardening. It got so bad that today, my father took her to the hospital - they had to drain pus out of her throat and she's spending the night there.

This is very alarming to me, and my father is outraged at the dental office (clinic of about 4-5 dentists) and feels that they were at fault for this. We are all switching dentists, but I'm just wondering if we should take any legal measures with this. Things like this shouldn't happen, and my mother was in too much pain for too long over this, and it could have ended very badly. What do you think we should do?

Here's what I would suggest:

First of all, keep all documentation for your mother's conditions. Evaluate what steps you took: did you at any point contact the dentist your Mother went to and describe the problems your mother was having? It may be that your Mother had some kind of reaction that was no fault of the dentist. I would recommend speaking with legal council to see what they recommend. If it was thru fault of the dentist because of some sort of neglect or malpractice on his part, you may be able to seek medical cost compensation (if any out of pocket costs exist) or compensation for mental duress. If nothing else it would exist on the dentist's record (if it was determined that fault existed) to warn potential future patients.
Reply:Your dentist should compensate you. Everybody makes mistakes this can or cannot happen. You should consult a lawyer and other dentists as well..because this may or may not have been the dentists fault. The dentist could have taken every percaution and this could have happend or he was being sloppy. Either way the dentist should compensate you. But I will not jump to malpractice right away until you get advice from some other dentists and some lawyers. Its all conditional
Reply:first of all all doctors know that they shouldnt operate or extract a tooth if there is any infection and seemed like he knew about it and he still went ahead and did it.

I would recommend for you to take pictures of your mother if there is any swelling also any report from the hospital
