I am having my wisdom teeth pulled...?

they are not impacted nor erupted. I am opting for the "laughing gas" instead of being put under because of the fear I have of it. Has anyone been through this before with non-impacted teeth and just Novacain and Laughing Gas? How is it done? Did you swell tremedously with non-impacted teeth? I chose to bring my iPod, and eye-mask, will I be fine? HELP ME!

The reason people choose laughing gas is because they CAN drive home after, unlike getting put under, which then you would need someone to drive you home.





Laughing gas is amazing, it makes you relaxed and is also a mild analgesic, meaning it stops pain. Along with the novacaine shot, you will not feel a lot of pain. You will feel pressure though, which isn't that bad. I really wouldn't worry too much, sweetie ;).





They will give you safety glasses for your eyes so nothing gets into them. Also, the laughing gas goes on top of your nose, so the eye mask may feel a little uncomfortable, but its up to you. Also, keep your iPod at a decent level of volume, because the dentist will talk to you throughout the procedure and at times you may need to respond back.

Reply:I had novacain and something like laughing gas. This did it for me...and oh yeah the IPOD. You will be fine hun....the pain after you get home can be bad but you will be fine.
Reply:I was put under and it was nice! My face was swollen and was sore, but mine were at weird angles. For about a week I couldn't open my mouth all the way cause it hurt so bad. Yawning was the worst especially the first day. But if you can have the gas and novacaine then yours must not be that bad and the recovery will be simple.

Reply:I was put under, but my boyfriend got them pulled with ONLY Novacain, no laughing gas. He said it was not fun but not too bad. Be sure to bring something to wear over your eyes so you cant see whats going on. You will feel pressure, but not much pain. Swelling depends on the person. If they think you will be ok to get them out without being put under, they probably arn't too difficult to take out and will not cause much swelling. Dont worry too much about it, you will get pain killers and wont feel much for a couple days. Enjoy eating ice cream and laying around all day!
Reply:I have never had a wisdom teeth pulled, but i did get three fillings recently. i am terrified of dentist. i chose laughing gas. the doctor prescribed Valium to calm my nerves but i chose not to take it. The gas made me so relaxed. I had my ipod and i closed my eyes and i was in la-la land. I think you will be fine. you will be swollen no matter what. be advised that if you choose Novocain, the side of your mouth will really really numb and your muscles will be so relaxed that when you speak that part of your face wont move. But you will be back to normal soon. Also, don't forget to get somebody to drive you home! You cannot be by yourself because the gas will make you kind of "loopy".
