How painful is it for the dentist to extract, ie. pull teeth?

I've had 4 teeth pulled before, but I think that you anticipate it to be worse than it really is in my experience. I've also had surgery and I was put to sleep. They had to pull out a tooth that was not allowing my other tooth to come down because it was blocked. It did hurt alot, but its only temporary pain, it always goes away unless your gums have problems or something. You'll be fine.

I think insted they love it.

Frankly after lastyears sitting i m stil afraid of them :(
Reply:The procedure itself won't hurt much if the dentist gives you plenty of Novocaine or laughing gas. But it will hurt a lot a few hours later.
Reply:Now days,

a very good dentist can make the procedure almost pain free.

however, for several hours afterwards, you might wanna take a nap. Ask your dentist about an OTC pain reliever you might want to have on hand.
Reply:it doesn't hurt me a bit! thanks for asking.
Reply:honestly, I'd rather have teeth pulled then have a cavity filled. sounds frikken crazy i know. but i have had my molars and wisdomes pulled cause they grew in really crooked, and it was fast and painless. whereas i have had cavities filled and wasn't numbed enough and felt pain..
Reply:I don't think it hurts the dentist at all.

seriously, if you're talking about wisdom teeth, you are put gently to sleep and don't feel a thing. When you wake up you are slightly depressed from the anasthesia but not in pain.

If they did a good job on the removal, there is little swelling and little pain afterwards.

If you get some infection, then there is pain afterwards, but more drugs to numb that. It's very unlikely you will experience uncontrollable pain at any part of the process.
Reply:I've had eight teeth pulled....so I am speaking from much experience. If anyone tries to tell you it isn't going to hurt, they're lying. It will hurt. It will hurt about equal to the pain of a hard pinch....LOL! It's really not going to be that painful. The worst part of it is the sound your tooth will make when he pulls it out. It sounds horrible, but just remember to stay calm because it's only a sound. However, after the procedure your mouth will be very sore %26amp; it will be a discomfort. Other than that you'll be just fine. Good luck! *On the plus side you have to eat only ice cream %26amp; jello until your mouth heals back up.*
Reply:Not very. All the pain is to be borne by the patient, not the dentist. :) Jokes apart, times have changed. Dentists first apply either a gel or a spay on the gum near the tooth to be dealt with. That will temporarily numb the place for them to inject the gum with a local anesthesia, and boy, in 10 mins, you can't feel a thing if he set off a grenade inside your mouth! What's scary is all the gleaming instruments around. But what they do is also distract you with some inane conversation. So, relax. It's pretty much painless!
Reply:Iam a dentist. Its painless for me as well as for my patients to extract, but i rather prefer to save them.
Reply:I don't think it's painful for the dentist at all - he just gets to charge his good fee for doing it.
Reply:I just got them done last month and it wasn't painful you do feel A LOT of pressure but no pain. You can also have them put you to sleep and feel nothing at all. The recovery is more painful that the surgery but they'll give you some nice pain killers to make it all better.
Reply:i had a tooth pulled about a month ago. i really was anticipating it to hurt ALOT! much to my surprise, it didnt hurt at all!! even the lidocain shot really wasnt anything to cry about. all i felt was some pressure. i didnt hear any of the icky sounds cuz i brought along a cd player and listened to it durring the process.. i was scared for no reason at all. granted it was only one tooth, but my appointment was at 5pm and i was done and out of there by 5:25pm. quickest appointment i've ever been to!
Reply:I just had a tooth pulled this morning. Much to my surprise, it did'nt hurt at all. The only thing I felt was some pressure. The worst part was the shot, and that was'nt all that bad.
