I'm getting my all of my wisdom teeth pulled out, how long do I have to stay out of school?

How long do you recommend that I should be absent from school after my wisdom tooth is pulled out?

You should ask the oral surgeon or dentist. It will depend on where the wisdom teeth are and what type of procedure is needed to take them out. If all four are deeply impacted (stuck in the gums/jaw), it may take a few days before you would feel comfortable with normal activity.
Reply:I'd plan on being out of school for about 3 days, mainly because the anesthetic can take that long to get out of your system.
Reply:I've known people that were back to work in 2 days and others that were out for a week. Just depends on your surgery, how you feel afterwards, if you are able to eat without nausea and if your pain is well controlled. So, you won't know how long you'll be out. Your doctor will tell you how long you need to be out anyhow.
Reply:maybe a week %26amp; a half.... call a friend to give u homework assignments %26amp; what u learned about
Reply:Most of the kids who have had their wisdom teeth done here have only had one side of their mouth done at a time. If you keep your head elevated and put ice packs on immediately after the surgery the swelling is minimized. We were out of school the day of surgery and the day after . There was still some swelling, but not enough to prevent going to class with painkillers.
Reply:you dont have to , but people will probaly make fun of you because you'll look like a hamster
Reply:I had two wisdom teeth pulled, same day, and was back to regular activity the next, taking antibiotics.

I would ask the dentist or the surgeon performing the procedure, if you need to miss school, they will write a letter of absence to your school.
Reply:You really only need 3 days. Most places of work only give you three days, and your dentist will probably tell you the same. If there's no complications, you could have it done on a Friday, and then go to school on Monday. I'd schedule it for a Wednesday. I had impacted ones (where they're growing in at an angle or sideways at worst). They had to drill the 2 top ones in half to get them out, but even that is now considered normal and not a complication. I was all set to go back to school in 3 days, but I planned it just right so that the 4th day was Saturday! Yay! Other friends didn't take my advice and only got the typical 3-day-Dr-note... back to school/work!

The only bad thing that can take longer is a dry socket. If your blood doesn't coagulate properly and form clots in the sockets, you basically have a hole in your gums and it hurts like HECK. Follow the dentist's guidelines on food because it can cause a dry socket. I was a passenger in a car accident, almost to eating solid food again, the airbag deployed and felt much better than the dashboard would have, but the impact knocked the top right clot out. I was in worse-than-migrane-pain for two whole weeks. I could barely walk. No matter if I got sent home or not, it wasn't worth it. The percocett didn't help - they took me off it and gave me codine, but that didn't help either.
Reply:My oral surgeon told me that I would probably want to take 3 days off from work to recover from the wisdom teeth extraction (which is coming up). He's been doing this for over 30 years, so he should know very well how long it normally takes for people to recover from this type of procedure.
Reply:Someone,

I didn't have to miss any work when I got mine done. It is a little different for each person. If you get it done after school on a Friday, you will surely be fine by Monday. Ask for pain medication before you leave the dentist, so you'll have it, if you need it.
Reply:My surgeon told me that each recovery depends on what actually transpires during surgery. I had four impacted wisdom's removed under a general anaesthetic. Unfortunately one of my lower wisdom teeth was very difficult to remove, I had lots of swelling and deep bruising along my jaw, down my neck and down to my collar bone. I had moderately severe pain for about 8 days, but continued to take ibuprofen most days for months afterwards. 2 years on I have had some xrays done for other dental work with a different dentist and it turns out that the surgeon has had to leave the roots of that tooth behind. I still have nerve damage which has only improved slightly, and I still experience deep aching in my jaw occasionally.

Don't make plans just take care of yourself.
