Pulling a tooth..Will they put a cap on? Please someone answer!?

So, My front tooth has been chipped for a lil over 6 months, it needed a root canal before hand but my parents never had me on insurance so i could not get seen. I just got insurance through the state and am on Medical for Western Dental. I think the tooth is in to bad of shape for a root canal so i think they might just pull it..will they put a cap on or put a fake tooth or something there.? and will they do it the same day? how long does it take..? the side of my front tooth is missing so i have a gap, and the tooth itsself is starting to change color a lil bit..and hurts.

Pulling a tooth..Will they put a cap on? Please someone answer!?
Most dentist will do everything they can to keep that tooth. The goal of dentistry to to keep and care for your natural teeth. Depending on how bad the tooth is, there's a few different procedures that can be done. They can do the root canal and cap or crown it. They can bridge it, like others have already said. If the tooth is beyond help, they can pull it and put an implant in its place. This is a lengthy procedure that is spread over several months. This is how the implant works.....they pull the tooth and wait until it completely heals. When they're satisfied that it's healed, they'll begin the prep for the implant. They will use a laser and cut through the gingiva until they reach the alveolar bone. They will then drill through the bone with a hand drill. They place a pin in the hole and take an x-ray to see that it's in the proper place and depth...they repeat this until it's where it needs to be. They will then place a screw with a cap there. You wait 3 months with that in and then they make the implant and when that's done...well they place it and you have a normal looking tooth.

Some insurances will pay for any of these procedures but the government assistance insurances are picky. You would have to check with the dentist office...they can help you out with what's covered.
Reply:They will use a bridge, a tooth or teeth anchored to surrounding teeth by means of caps or root canals, posts and caps
Reply:If they put a cap on, there will have to be part of a tooth there to put it on.

If they pull it they may want to put in a bridge.

Which is a fake tooth and attached to the ones on either side.

A cap they would put on the same day, the other one I don't know about.
Reply:They may still want to do a root canal but they can put a veneer on the tooth. Check out the website...

Reply:There are four possibilities:

1) the dentist will pull the tooth and grind the teeth on either side to posts. The he/she will take impressions and send them away to have a bridge made. In the meantime, a temporary bridge will be made of plastic until the porcelain one is ready.

2) the dentist will pull the tooth, take an impression and have a tooth made that will screw into the jaw in place of the one you lost (not as painful as it sounds). You'll have a temp until it's ready

3) the dentist will save your tooth, grind it down, take an impression and then put on a temporary crown until the porcelain one is ready.

4) the dentist will save your tooth and grind out the chipping and no crown will be necessary. This may require a "facing" or a "cover" that goes over the front of the tooth but is not a full crown.

Your insurance will probably cover a part, but not all, of the expense. A full crown in porcelain goes in the $800 to $1000 range and will last a lifetime.
