i have to get my wisdom tooth pulled and im soooo scared.

Does it hurt to get your wisdom teeth pulled?
Hi,

I had to have my wisdom teeth pulled after my third child was born they were o.k. I was kind of scared though. I couldn't drive myself home after wards and was put out when i had it done too.I was twenty six years old than and that was fifteen years ago. Mine were impacted so I had to be put under for dental surgery.

So hang in there and let the dental person know U are scared about this that is more brave by telling them and letting them know!!

Good luck and have ice on hand to set on face to help heal and don't drink out of a straw !!!!

Good Luck U can do this!!

By posting this is the Best way to handle your fears!!

the definition of fear is :False evidence appearing Real

not everyone is the same and by sharing that U are scared makes it halfed and by sharing ones joy makes them doubled!!

Big hugs,

Laura

What medications might be needed during the extraction process?

Before your wisdom tooth is extracted, the tooth and the surrounding tissue will be numbed with a local anesthetic—the same injection with the same medication you receive to numb a tooth before having a cavity filled. In addition to the local anesthetic to numb the pain, you and your dentist or oral surgeon may decide that a sedative is desired to control your anxiety. Sedating medications that could be selected include: nitrous oxide (otherwise known as "laughing gas"), an oral sedative (for example, Valium®), or an intravenous sedative (administered via an injection into your veins). If nitrous oxide is given, you will be able to drive yourself home. If any of the other medications is selected, you will need someone to drive you to and from the appointment.
Reply:Not usually. Don't worry, it only takes a minute or two.
Reply:I was gased when I had mine done I didn't even know they pulled them out... no pain... simple extraction - no drilling. Afterwards it hurt.
Reply:no worries, i had mine pulled and it didn't hurt at all. The only problem was it got kind of annoying b/c i like to eat, and eating may not be one the most plesant things. They'll probably give you a bottle full of vicoden just in case... which will put you on cloud 9
Reply:Well I hate to break it to you, but they dont pull wisdom teeth, they cut them out. It does hurt, but you will get pain medicine, and medicine for swelling. You can also take ibuprofen for the inflammation. Your dentist will be able to give you more details. Good Luck, it is not that bad really, you will be just fine. Just make sure you do as the doctor says..
Reply:pain afterwards, but your jaw isn't built to hold that many teeth anymore...in the long run it's a necessary evil...
Reply:You won't feel pain during the extraction. They numb you up A LOT, so all you will feel is pressure. You will feel pain for a few days afterward, but just take your antibiotics and pain pills on schedule and you will be fine. Follow your dentist's instructions carefully and you will be fine! Try not to worry.
Reply:I got all four of mine done, and it really didn't hurt half as bad as I thought it would. Sure, there was some discomfort, but I'd rather do that again than ever get a filling!!

Make sure you go to a good surgeon, and get a prescription for painkillers.

Also, be prepared to eat pudding and popsicles!!!

Listen carefully to what you're told to do afterwards. I got a little syringe to swish water around the area after I ate--it prevents chewed food from getting stuck in the gaps when they are healing.

Bruising around the cheek bones is also normal--scared the heck out of me, when my face started turning yellow--but it's completely normal and happens to everyone!!!
Reply:you will not feel a thing until after the procedure then they will give you pain meds for afterwards so it isn't that bad i got them all done at the same time and it didn't hurt that much at all
Reply:it depends all the other people have different opinions on what pain is but if you are gassed it usually doesnt hurt and they usually give you pain mediacation after for swelling
Reply:I got mine pulled last year when I was 15. They put me under for the procedure so I didn't feel a thing. And they give you plenty of pain medication afterwards. It can be a little bit sore for the first 2-3 days. But it's not too bad after that. The worst part for me was the swelling. It felt really strange. But just lay low for a few days and you'll be fine. The important thing is to keep the area clean. Take very good care of the surgery area.
Reply:no way, they either put you to sleep, or numb the area, i got my wisdom tooth pulled just a month ago %26amp; it only took a week till i was eating hard food.......

hope it goes well.
Reply:it hurts like hell.....
Reply:Of course it hurts, they will give you pain medication to stop pain. there will be swelling but seeing as how it it just one, it shouldnt be too bad. i got all four pulled and it was agony!
