For those who had your wisdom teeth pulled...?

Did you have hard sore knots on the inside of your cheeks, right next to where the tooth was pulled? Also, did your dentist sew up the holes or did he just leave them open? What happens if food gets stuck in the holes? lol It's been 9 days for me and I'm still taking pain meds.

For those who had your wisdom teeth pulled...?
I had knots for almost 2 weeks. My holes were sewn up with dissolvable stitches, so I never had any food get stuck. Are you taking the meds because you are sore or because you are in a lot of pain? Normal soreness and discomfort is expected for 4-6 weeks, but if you go past the 2 week mark still needing the pain meds, I'd call your doctor.
Reply:my wisdom teeth were small so he left the hole and i was off the meds in a week
Reply:Have you called your dentist? The knot is troubling. I did have stitches and if food is getting in there, you should be washing it out. The dentist should have sent you home with a special syringe made specifically for that.
Reply:I didn't have any lumps and the dentist did not sew up the holes. When I ate I rinsed my mouth out with salt water but I ended up getting dry sockets which causes so much pain. Getting your wisdom teeth pulled can be very painful and I hope that you feel better soon.
Reply:Yup, left them open and you rinse your mouth out with warm salt water to take out the food. I didn't take the pain killers but it last for awhile. The subsided for me in a couple weeks but it too several weeks for my guns to heel.

Good luck with that.
Reply:You should not be taking pain meds 9 days later. Go back to the dentist and have them check it out again. If your "holes" are not healing you are probably infected. Don't worry, it's all that uncommon to get an infection with this surgery but you need the right meds to get rid of it....
Reply:You might want to go back to the dentist who took out your wisdom teeth. When I had my wisdom teeth taken out I had three wisdom teeth. It took me about one week to get over it. The first day was the hardest.
Reply:i had stitches that dissolved them selves.i was on pain killers for about 10 days after having all four removed, but they dislocated my jaw doing it so that was why i had a lot of pain.

if you get food in a hole just get some antiseptic mouth wash and really swill it round where the food is stuck and it should pop out.
Reply:Its been a long time since I had my wisdom teeth pulled (about 20 years...lol). My dentist closed the holes with the kind of stitches that disolve. If food is getting stuck in the holes, maybe rinse with warm salt water gently and it will come out. The knots are probably a little swelling. 9 days is normal to still be having pain. If you start having severe pain and swelling then I would call your dentist.
Reply:I had no insurance when I was young...and it was going to cost me $800.00 to get them pulled....I instead signed a waver with the dentist and he did them as simple extractions... ($50.00 per tooth). I did get novicane, but was not put out for the procedure, nor did I get gas ect. I think the doctor almost broke my Jaw..had all four done at the same time. Looking back, it was a stupid thing to do...and very painful...He did sew up the holes and I was in pain for about 2 weeks. also had black eyes. (also lost consousness in the chair.)

This dentist retired many years ago..thank god!
Reply:yeah its normal to have pain after you've had your wisdom teeth pulled, my dentist didn't sew the holes, but many of my friends have had their wisdom teeth pulled and their dentist sewed the holes. and if you get food stuck in the holes gently use a Q-tip to clean it out, or wash your mouth out with warm water (mouth wash hurts alot) i was taking pain meds three weeks after i got mine pulled. I'm a slow healer i guess

good luck....
Reply:use mouth wash to remove any food particles and keep the area clean - my partner was on painkillers for a good couple of weeks and his jaw still ached after that. he had stiches. the gum and surrounding area will have some discomfort for up to a couple of weeks but if your worried ring the dental hospital you had it done at (or your dentist)
Reply:They didn't stitch up mine...the holes just closed up, my cheeks weren't that swollen either. They gave me medicine for the pain but every since I got all four pulled, I've been having problems with my gums back there. If food gets into them, they can get infected. Sometimes, my gums swell up back there for no apparent reason..lol..its frustrating.
Reply:oooh sounds painful!
