It's a bony fragment that's working it's way out. See your dentist and he will remove it with no trouble at all. This is very common and not something to be alarmed about. Use warm salt water rinses and take Motrin for pain relief until you can see your dentist. Hope I've been of some help.

Additional information: The bony fragment can be quiet painful until it is removed, however if you are experiencing a different type of pain, or more severe than the pain (abscess infection) prior to the extractions or the day of, then it's possible that you may have developed a dry socket. I'm reluctant to think this since I believe you would have returned to your dentist promptly if one had developed due to the excruciating pain caused from the bone being exposed. As for the infection you had before the extractions, it's normal to remove teeth when infection is present, sometimes it has to be done immediately for the patients health. I'm sure your dentist did what was necessary and placed you on the appropriate antibiotics to finish cleaning up the rest of the infection.
Reply:only a dentist can help you now
Reply:you should visit the dentist again he will have seen this before and will remove the remainder of your tooth they carnt always get it the first time and the healing prosese moves fragments to the surface.
Reply:i would go back to the dentist. i had a tooth pulled and a bit left behind. it was painful but not infected. it eventually worked its way through the gum and i pulled it out with a pair of tweezers. it healed OK after that, but like i said, i didn't have an infection. i feel for you, nothing worse than toothache
Reply:if your 19 or slightly over it's your molers. they start to emerge after your 19 years old.
Reply:It is a good thing that you are still taking antibiotics. The reason for the pain might be an infection, the abscess formation, or that the lesion caused by the extraction of teeth left the tissue with a typical inflammatory reaction. You should have called the dentist the day you began feeling pain. If your pain does not go away, go to an Emergency Room.

The Medical Doctor on call will not extract the tooth portion, but he can check the inflammation, prescribe you better antibiotics, and refer you to an Endo-dentist that will make sure that your teeth gums are healthy.
Reply:It will probably work it's way out, this is not uncommon and not dangerous.

The pain is what concerns me, and I'm hoping you haven't developed dry socket.
Reply:Teeth are surrounded by a shell like casing and when they are extracted bits of that can be left behind (usually known as shucking) This is probably what has happened and isn't a piece of tooth at all. You appear to have whats known as a dry socket infection and I sympathise with you totally, these are so very painful. Go back to your dentist and just get him/her to quickly check this out. Take painkillers at regular periods and do 3 salt water mouth washes a day. I hope you're feeling better soon love, this is miserable I know.
