I have a serious question about pulling an abscessed tooth, then being rushed to the hopsital?

I had an abscessed tooth pulled, still infected with my jaw swollen, the dentist pulled it and removed the lower tooth without giving antibitotcs to kill the infection, then about 30 mins after I left the Dentist office, I started shaking and my mom took me to the hospital and when I got there I went into convulsion and was running 107 fever, vomitting and loss of memory....when I woke up the next day, and started talking to everyone, the doctor was surprised I was able to still talk on my own, my question is, does any one know what happened and what went wrong????

sounds like the doc should have given you some antibiotics - the infection definitely made you sick
Reply:when the dintist pulled your tooth w out giving antibiotics the infection(abcess) spread through your body which caused the fever and everything. usualy with that sever of fever people go into a coma for a few days or die
Reply:Hi, I'm a dentist.

Your dentist may have elected to extract the abscessed tooth the day of your initial appointment due to the severity of the infection. Sometimes it is not prudent to wait for antibiotics to reduce the infection before removing an infected tooth. I'm lead to believe this was the case with you even more so because of what happened following your extraction.

It is possible that the abscessed tooth was on the verge of causing a systemic infection in your blood stream (a septicemia), which can result in a very high fever and signs of shock, very similar to what you experienced. Removing the tooth was the right thing to do. It may have saved your life, in fact.

An infected tooth that is causing an abscess is a source of infection that cannot be eradicated through antibiotics or your own body's immune system. The tooth must be removed before you can heal. Antibiotics can treat the infection that has spread beyond the tooth, as it seems to have in your case shortly following your extraction.

I may not be correct, but this sounds like the most plausible explanation in my professional opinion.

Good luck, and next time don't neglect your teeth to the point of having to deal with an abscess. Schedule regular cleanings/exams with your dentist, and follow up on necessary treatment.
Reply:Felicia is right. If the infection from an abscessed tooth is not properly treated (or in your case, not treated at all), it can spread to your nervous system. I don't know you, but I'm so glad you recovered enough to post your question, because you could have lapsed into coma and/or worse.

Get a new Dentist, find a lawyer and start exploring your legal options now, because the "Dentist" you have now should be held accountable for his/her neglect in not giving you antibiotics. They're lucky you pulled through.
