Pulling a tooth/returning to work?

My dentist is about 5 minutes from my job. If I have a tooth pulled (specifically molar #2) on my lunch break, would I be able to return to work after the appointment (assuming there were no issues/complications)?

Pulling a tooth/returning to work?
should be no probs there. unless your job involves any heavy lifting or running around, basically if you do anything that increases your blood presssure you can make it bleed. we advise our patients that they may return to work after so long as they are not running around.
Reply:I tried returning to work the morning after having a tooth pulled (Wisdom tooth, mind, and it took a solid hour to get out). Got to the bus stop the day after before realising my legs weren't really holding me up too well and things were spinning around. Your mileage may vary, depending on which tooth, how much local, and what your job is.
Reply:probably not...unless you have a reallllly long lunch break.
Reply:Hi! I've been in dentistry for over 25 years. I would not. Take the rest of the day off. You will have some bleeding and have to bite down on gauze for about 1-2 hours. Also if you bend over alot or pick things up, the bleeding could start again. Most important, you will have bad breath from the bleeding and some swelling and need ice packs to reduce this. Why torment yourself when you should go home and relax. This is more traumatizing them you think and you will feel tired. The best thing is to do home, relax and sleep with an extra pillow. Don't fall asleep with the gauze in. Apply ice packs 20 minutes on and off for 2-3 hours. Start salt water rinses after 24 hours. Good luck! M
Reply:Well, they will tell you to keep this gauze in your mouth until it quits bleeding. You have to change it every so often. I guess it depends on the kind of work that you do. Me, I would take the rest of the day off. I remember coming home and just being miserable.
Reply:That really depends on the person. I know of folks who have been able to do that.

I tried to return to work after having a tooth pulled once. The shot wore off and I started to hurt pretty bad, so I took a vicadin. The day was going good I thought...no pain, was able to concentrate on work, but apparently I was walking sideways down the hall, so my supervisor sent me home. hehe

I'd suggest that you, at least, take the afternoon off, but like I said, it depends on the person.
Reply:I personally have had 7 teeth pulled all at different times, and except for the first one I had pulled, I returned to work immediately after the extraction. It really doesn't hurt during or after. I feel that the pain your having now as a result of a bad tooth exceeds the pain of the actual extraction and the healing process. Take some Advil a half an hour prior to having the procedure, relax, go have it done and go back to work. You'll be fine. Good luck!
